Masala Chai has a complex and colourful history. Originating from India, Masala Chai literally translates to "Spiced Tea" and has been a beverage of choice since the rise of black tea production during the British Colonization of India. The interesting take is that there was no one true recipe for the beverage other than the use of Black Tea, Milk, Cardamom and Ginger. Variations formed in every home, Chaiwalas would concoct their own recipes garnishing unique flavours for return customers. Soon, every region laid claim to their own version.
